Groundhog's Day

Nothing really new to report here, but I thought I'd let everyone know I'm doing fine. As the title suggests, every day seems the same here. There's so little variation to the weather, food, and work that we all have deja vu every day. You can see it with everyone. Frequently during our meetings, someone will say something like, "Yeah, we were working that issue yesterday...or the day before...wait, what's today?"

There's 4 or more orange marmelade kittens on base. They're probably no more than 4 months old, and very skinny and timid. I thought there was only one at first, until the other night (don't ask me which one), I saw four at once. So I've been putting out a little plastic bowl of long-life full-cream milk every time I come back from the chowhall and some tuna fish when they have it. Most of the time when I check on the bowl and plate of tuna, it's gone, but a few times it went bad in the heat. I'm hoping to train them to come to one spot to eat and maybe even let me pet them. It's amazing they're alive at all out here. I even saw one of them with what looked like a mouse in its teeth.

Hi Josh! Good to hear from you. Do they have rabies in Iraq?
We're getting all packed up for our trip to Lancaster. We'll take lots of pictures to send to you. Love, mom

That's great, mom, just rain on my parade, why don't you. Hear I am trying to do something good and you have to bring up rabies. Maybe I should just borrow someone's grenade launcher and put them out of their misery.

I'm sure there's rabies in Iraq, and lots of other diseases, but almost certainly not in the confines of base.

Tell Steph I sent her an email on the high side that she needs to read before she leaves work next week.

Hi Josh! Nice hearing from you and to know you are doing fine.

Steph and Zach arrived Wed eve and last eve (Thurs) we went to eat at Carrabas. It was great! No waiting this time, the food and the service was incredible, even when the waitress tossed my salad right upside down onto the table. LOL

We love you! Owen & Cindy

Hey Kris. If I really wanted fried cat, I would just go to the chowhall.

Hey Chrissy. The kittens are cute, and they're not as skinny as they were just a week ago. The little bastards hiss at me when I come by without food, but mew pathetically when they smell the tuna.

Wish I could be there myself so you wouldn't have to send pics, but I'll see you all soon enough.
