Incommunicado...mostly

I'm still in lovely Fort Bragg, NC waiting to deploy. I'm taking some training, filling out paperwork, getting gear and shots, etc. It looks like I will be done next week and can fly out sometime after that. Even after working in the intelligence community for pretty much my entire adult life, I'm surprised at how sensitive this position is and how little I can say about it. I will be working for a Joint Task Force in Iraq, and that's pretty much all I can say.

I will not be able to bring any cameras or cell phones, which means I can't bring my high speed micro pc since it has two cameras in it. I will try to keep this blog updated so everyone knows I'm OK and I will be accessible via email, but do not ask me anything about where I am or what I do. All phone calls, emails, or other forms of communication with me are being monitored.

I initially thought I would stay for 6 months in this position, but now I'm thinking maybe 2 or 3 months. As exciting as this job sounds, there's nothing useful or descriptive I would be able to put on a resume anyway, and my number one priority in life right now is lining up a job to come home to.

There was a second position for which I was qualified and approved, one where I would be able to tell people what I did (as much as can be expected, anyway). Once I get burned out here, I'm planning on switching over. I'd be in Baghdad and would at least have my computer with which to keep in touch with everyone. I know I can put up with that job and facility or a while; I just have my doubts about this one.

Thanks so much for keeping up with the blog. It's really fascinating to see your process from the inside.

I hope your deployment goes well, and you are able to update occasionally.
